Job Description

The Primary Function of the Intermodal Sales Manager is working with the branch network to sell TMC customers Intermodal Transportation solutions. This individual will be responsible for a high volume of customers and carrier interactions with the branch network.

When growth of the business dictates, the Intermodal Sales Manager will also assist in the leadership, growth, and development of the TMC Intermodal Department.  They will be accountable for the development of a team of exceptional people and for embodying and demonstrating the core values of Quality, Integrity and Continuous Improvement. They accomplish this by utilizing communication, organizational, creativity skills to maximize revenue potential while meeting customer service/operational requirements and organizational goals.


  • Be accountable for the performance of the IMDL Team’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Collect and distribute prospecting materials from carrier partners.
  • Craft and distribute weekly network communications.
  • Assist with network education.
  • Prospect and assist in closing IMDL Truck Load Conversion business inside TMC 53’ Dry Van Freight.
  • Prospect and assist in closing IMDL business inside TMC’s book of business.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with all the users of the IMDL Teams services.
  • Prospect for leads to build a pipeline, including heavy customer interactions.
  • Manage accounts to retain existing relationships.
  • Succeed at heavy price and service negotiation with customers and carriers
  • Work with TMCs book of IMDL providers to provide the right products for every opportunity based on price, service and transit requirements.
  • Thrive in the player coach environment
  • Assist team to improve, develop and grow customer and carrier commitments.
  • Proficiency in the IMDL team’s processes and standards of excellence for carrier operations to be able to back-up other team members.
  • Assist network in monthly/quarterly reviews with Customers and report our performance for the period.
  • Help direct reports resolve any challenges that may arise concerning the successful execution of the load from tendering, delivering, receivables, and payment of carrier or customer.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Transportation or Logistics and/or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 6 months experience at TMC
  • Not currently on a Performance/Discipline Improvement Plan
  • Proven Track record of dedication to customer service
  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office products
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced work environment and tolerate stress
  • Exercise excellent planning and organizing skills, be attentive to detail, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong decision-making skills – collecting required data to balance both long- and short-term objectives
  • Ability to plan and organize, attention to detail, problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.



The physical requirements and work environment described is representative of those present while performing the essential functions of this position.

  • Travel may be required from time to time (15-20%) to visit TMC Logistics Branch locations and customer as the business needs dictate.
  • Must be able to sit and use telephone and computer, simultaneously, for extended periods
  • Must be able to speak and hear clearly in a high-volume telephone environment
