TMC Transportation has an immediate opening for a Safety Manager out of our office in Gaston, SC.  

PRIMARY FUNCTION: 

The Safety Manager is responsible for the overall safety and compliance of assigned group of drivers.  Manages drivers in regards to safe operation of the truck pursuant to Federal Motor Carrier safety regulations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Conducts and manages on the scene accident investigation.
  • Interprets all known factors determined from accident investigation and assigns accident fault. When TMC driver is determined to be at fault Safety Manager will determine driver’s financial liability and seek reimbursement to cover damages. 
  • Coach drivers and operations staff on hours of service compliance.
  • Provides subject matter expertise regarding cargo securement questions to all drivers.
  • Conducts and manages cargo claims investigation and determines resolutions to include salvaging product to secondary sources.
  • Interprets all known factors to determine fault for damaged cargo. Seeks financial reimbursement from drivers deemed at fault.  Authorizes payment to vendors for damaged material when needed. 
  • Approves or declines driver applications for employment.
  • Conducts group and one-on-one safety review meetings. Coaches drivers on areas for improvement and recommends retraining if necessary. 
  • Conducts disciplinary meetings with drivers to include terminations.
  • Oversees truck securement process as well as locating abandoned trucks.
  • Shares after hours on call responsibilities on a rotating basis with other department members.
  • Conducts road trips to include driver checks on securement, hours of service, driving issues, vorad usage & functionality, and visits to customers or other vendors to resolve issues or enhance relationships.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Four-year degree, preferably in Transportation and Logistics, and/or relevant experience in transportation or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) products.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced work environment and tolerate stress.
  • Ability to plan and organize, attention to detail, problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Prior driving experience preferred but not necessary.
