Job Description

Position:          Liability/Cargo Claim Manager         

Reports To:     EVP Risk Management         

Review Date: December 28, 2020 

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Direct management of accident and cargo claims, handle serious losses, retain and direct defense counsel, attend mediations and depositions, responsible for performance, development and coaching of staff in an attempt to minimize the adverse effects of accidental losses against the company.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

 

  • Investigates and maintains claims. Review and determine coverages. Set and maintain reserves.
  • Oversees activities within claims department. Provides file guidance to staff, recommendations on claim files, extends settlement authority after reviewing files.
  • Interviews and/or corresponds with claimants, witnesses, police officers, hospital personnel and attorneys.
  • Prepares reports of findings and make recommendations or reports for senior management.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Bachelors degree with 6-8 years claims experience, commercial claims preferred.
  • Knowledge of evaluating injury exposures.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced work environment and tolerate stress.
  • Demonstrated success exercising independent decision making, problem solving and effective negotiation skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Must be able to sit and use telephone and computer, simultaneously, for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to speak and hear clearly in a high volume telephone environment.
